Did you know that virtually 99% of all scrap steel generated by Toyota plants is now recycled...

Daimler Chrysler recycles over 186,500 tons of cardboard,paper,plastic,aluminum,wood and steel a year.

GM also retured over 8 tons of old paint not used to vendors for recycling....

Did you also know that after about 7 years at top spot the color silver was been knocked out by White/ White Pearl. Thats what DuPont tells us, But thats in Japan & Mexico right now... They are also saying it a trend setter. But dont forget that Black Metallics and other color effects will increase in popularity so they say...

I find this info very interesting and want to hear from some of you about it...

New Cars and The Backyard Mechanic

Years ago when the cars were simple to work on. There was what we called THE BACKYARD Mechanics or weekend mechanics.. These guys could remove,replace or repair anything. As a Counterman in those days we would look forward to a Saturday. That day would make up for the whole week. Whether you had a good or bad week that saturday pulled you out.. We would have customers lining up outside for anything from Motors,transmissions to Body parts likes fenders,doors,hoods and whatever else they could fix. You could drive down the blocks and see cars being fixed in backyards or in driveways on ramps or blocked up. Those were the Best days in the Auto Salvage Business. Today with 99% of the cars built with computers you need to be a Computer wizard to try it.. Just look under the hood of most of the cars and its a nightmare !! The engine dont even look like a engine anymore.. The big 3 and so on made it so hard to repair our own cars,That the Backyard and Weekend Mechanic are All gone... The days we could fix and replace body parts are also gone.. This is also killing our business and making it harder for us to sell parts and make a living.. I wish those days to come back !!! Edwards Takes The Auto Club 500 !!!!

Well after sundays wreck fest and rain-out which took out some good cars. Nascar Stops Sundays race at lap 87 and finishes the race monday. Which it was sunny skies and a somewhat dry track.. Here is a Quote from Edwards that was Posted on nascar.com.

"The track was a little bit different," Edwards said of the conditions on Monday. "It was fun to race here in the sun. ... If we have a 55-hour red flag, we're still going to go out there and race as hard as possible. We've all had to wait through rain delays when the anxiety builds up.

"I was lucky that [Johnson] was a little bit loose, because it would have been really, really tough to get by him if he wasn't loose."

I didnt get to see the race and dont want to give my opinion on it. But from what i read and seen i really didnt miss much.... Well after all the Bull we have a new Points Leader goin into this week.. #18 Kyle Busch by 3 points..

What a Finish !!!!

Well thats was one of the Best Daytona 500 i have seen in a long time.. Close racing good Drafting and some good bumping and as we all know, BUMPING IS RACING !!!!! I am sure everyone who watched the race enjoyed it, I know i did.. I could'nt wait for the 1 thing i love the must and was waiting for and that was CRANK-IT-UP !! Boy the windows were Rockin in my house... But the wife didnt like it at all... LOL I think this year will bring us some great racing at all tracks. I felt the cars were very equal and now its time for the drivers to show there skill. I did some racing in my time and could tell you they had there hands full in those cars and you could see them sometimes really working the wheel. But for the most part they ALL did a great job.. The Daytona 500 "Who will win ????"

As you all my see or figure out i am a True Blooded Nascar Fan.. And i will always be a Dale Earnhardt Sr. Fan.. He will always be the man and i will always be the fan !!! That day for alot of us was the worst day in Nascar History and for us too. I still to this day miss seeing the Balck 3 coming out of pit road.. I still sometimes loook to see were he is starting... Then it kicks in... Alot has been changed since that day abd i feel Nascar was done a Great Job to this point making the cars safer for the drivers. But i guess we will see what this year brings us all with the new COT Cars. If you watched this passed Sunday Night The BUD SHOOTOUT that was 1 of the Best Races i have seen in a long time.. The banging,Rubbing, pushing,, Thats Racing !!!!! Look like a Saturday Night Short Track Race, But on a Large Scale.... So Lets Get a Pole Going for this Sunday's Daytona 500..

NY Stops us Again !!!

Well let me say sorry for the long delay between posts, I been a lil busy and forgetting about this blog but that will not happen again...

Well let me tell you all about This GREAT STATE we live in... Back a few years ago NY State tell ALL auto wreckers that we can NOT sell used Air Bags.. For all kinds of dumb reasons they come up with and think they know. Well besides ALL the other reason why they say it's 1 of the bigest items stolen and they can stop it by doing this.. WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to know who got paid for this new law ??? The only ones that benefit this is the NEW car dealers selling them.. NY State says we can sell them now BUT we must have a company to test them and Guarantee them to work !! THATS THE BIGGEST BULLS*** line i ever heard.. First off they have to approve the company, (so far they have'nt did that with the 3 we got) Also if anyone has ever read the sticker on any new car all it says is that the car has a SRS system in it and nothing about them guaranteeing it to work,, So why do we have to if they dont ???? But 1 of the things i have noticed in the Auto Wrecking business lately is that alot of cars are being totalled and not fixed because of blown air bags.. Think of this.. You have a Elderly family member who gets into a car wreck, But it's not very bad but the air bag blows, Now they live on a set money each month, The shops say well we can fix it but the air bag was blown and we have to order a new one and thats more then the whole repair it self so the car being a little old they total it and now your Family member is out of a car and they can not afford another one because they get almost nothing for there car do to being a older model and not worth much.. But if the Auto Body shop could use Used Air Bags for the repair The price would be only about 1/4 the price of the new one and now the car can be fixed and which makes alot of people happy, from your Family member, to the Auto body Shop and down to the insurance company who now dont have to total another car..

Well this is a very BIG DEAL in our Business because NY State has taken a very BIG money maker away from the Auto Salvage Yards and they just dont care.. Well i hope they realize that has taken alot from us and it hurts in our Pocket and hurts all the way down to the poeple who pay the taxes and vote for these people..

Junk Cars !!

What do people think we still pay $50.00 for salvage cars today ??? I think they still think its the early 70's or something. Its funny when you give a person a price on a part and they say WOW !!! that much ??? Yes its double in the dealer sir.. But your part is used and you got the car for $50.00 or so.. No sir alot more then that.. Then they start,, well you guy dont pay alot for junkcars, I called you a month or so and wanted to junk my car a 80 Diplomat and you told me $50.00.. Thats right sir its only worth that,, Its a 1980 not a 2000.. well it had alot of good parts you could sell for big money... So then i tell him, Bud here is what i will do for you,, I will buy a 80 diplomat and pay for it myself.. I will bring the car to your house and everytime i get a call for a part for that car i will sell the part for you and give you the money.. DEAL ?? Then you hear ALL the stories,, well if, why and but.. Sir your here looking for a wheel or a 2005 car which cost about $150.00 each at the dealer and i told you $50.00 and you still think thats alot of money !!!! SIR YOU NEED TO GO BUY THE PART SOMEHWERE ELSE SORRY I CAN NOT HELP YOU !!!!!.

I never could understand where some people get the idea we pay nothing for cars and make millions on parts... Well let me give some of you the real deal.. At our place here we sell only 1997 and newer cars and we pay sometimes a few thousands for them and hope to make money from what is left of the car.. Here is a good example we just bought a 2002 Trailblazer at the auction for $1225.00 plus, buyer fees, gate fees, towing fees and internet fees, at the end we paid $1600.00 for this truck, Now the truck is hit hard in the front.. I just had my yardman cut away the front to check the motor and BAMMMMMMMMMMM broken block and motor is no good,, Well now we have to pull whatever we can out of this truck to make our money or just to make money from it.. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose... It's not like the old days when we did make money.. Just think of it this way, How many people could fix there own car or truck years ago.. We use to have a ton of the BACKYARD MECHANICS who fix anything.. Now we lost alot of them and WHY you say ??? Just look under your hood and that will answer the question...

Well today started off just fine, Suns out, 80 degrees, Great Day !!! So i am up early and get to work about 7am to try and to get some work done so i can get outside to inventory some of the New Cars i got at the Auction this week... Then about 7:30 am the phone rings and BAMMMMMMM THE MR KNOW-IT-ALL IS ON THE PHONE !!!! We all know one of these people.. Well here is what he says... Good morning i need a part,, OK sir what do you need ?? Well do you have a fender for a 1999 thru 2006 Monte carlo.. So i say SIR 99 IS DIFFERENT AND SO IS 2006 So WHAT YEAR IS YOUR CAR ??? He says listen bud they are all the same so do you have it ??? NOW THATS ITTTTTTTTT, THIS MOTHER JUMPER HAS HAD IT, NOW I CHANGE OVER TO THE MAD WRECKER... LISTEN PAL JUST TELL ME WHAT YEAR YOUR CAR IS AND LET ME DO MY JOB !!!!!! Well after 5 minutes of listening to him tell me stories about how long he been working on cars and building Monte Carlo's and owning them, I said to him SORRY PAL I CAN'T HELP YOU,, YOUR TO GOOD FOR ME AND I DONT HAVE WHAT YOU NEED...

What happens next is unreallllll,,, He says to me... LISTEN BUD NEXT TIME JUST TELL ME YOU DONT HAVE THE FENDER AND DONT ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND HANGS THE PHONE UP ON ME BEFORE I HAD THE CHANCE TO TELL HIM WHAT A MORON HE IS AND I WAS HOPING TO FIND OUT WHAT PLACE HE WORKED FOR SO I NEVER SEND ANYONE TO THAT PLACE...

So remember next time you call any place for Auto Parts just give them the Year,Make and model of your car and thats it... Giving the Correct Info is all we need...

Being a counterman for years in the auto salvage business i have heard all kinds of things on the phone.. But to be honest the Best thing or Maybe the dumbest thing i get asked is "DO YOU SELL PARTS ??? Are people that Dumb ?? They just called a Auto Salvage Yard and I answer with the Name and they ask me that.. What is wrong with people did they forget who they called ? I got so pissed off one day that a guy called me and i answerd like always and he asked me the dumb question.. SIR DO YOU SELL PARTS ? Well that was itttttttttttttttt, I said to him NO I SELL PHUCKEN TOMATO'S !!!!!!!!!! And can you believe he said ok sorry i got the wrong number...... So PLEASE next time you call a Auto Salvage yard looking for Used Auto Parts for your Car or truck or Motorcycle,Remember who you called and just ask for your Parts..

!!!! Beware of the JunkYard Dog !!!!!

Since owning Auto Salvage yards we have had our share of Dogs. They come in all shapes and size, But 1 thing they all have in common they all BITE HARD !!!!! Never ever think they are friendly even if they are wagin there tails.. But they all do a GREAT job and stay up all night watching over ALL our Cars and Parts we pay alot for... Just remember one thing before you think about going over the fence to steal parts from our local Auto Salvage yard,,, How BIG is the Dog ?? and do i have a good Health Plan and do i have money for Bail !!!!!
